Sirodhara Oil

on Monday, December 8, 2008

This oil contains 3 herbs in a Sesame oil base. It is prepared according to “Avartana” a special method of preparing Ayurvedic oils, which involves processing and reprocessing of oils several times to make more potent, fortified oils. Preparation of Ayurvedic oils involves three components: Oil, decoction and paste of herbs. While preparing the decoction most of the volatile oils get evaporated and only the water-soluble active principles remain in the final product. The paste is added to the oil and prevented from burning by continuous stirring over mild heat, to get fat soluble components of herbs and volatile oils mixed all together. The oil preparation is re-processed with herbs 10 times and the oil finally produced is more concentrated.
