Castor Oil can be taken internally for its laxative effect or may used as and emollient to smoothen the skin and keep it moist. Apply to skin as a softener.

The seed oil of a large tropical plant Ricinus communis, castor oil has been used for many years to ease constipation (Traditionally taken internally as a purgative or used externally as a compress. It is mostly used in cases of high pitta.
Action:- Cathartic, demulcent, analgesic, nervine, purgative.

Action and uses as per Ayurveda: Alterative, analgesic, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-rheumatic, antispasmodic, aromatic, astringent, carminative, demulcent, diaphoretic, digestive, diuretic, expectorant, germicide, haemostatic, stomachic. Useful in dyspepsia, flatulence, diarrhea, menorrhagia.

The quality and part of the plant used are highly important in the manufacturing and processing of herbal powders. Certain parts are more potent and effective than others. Fiber and other unwanted material should be removed as they do not have any herbal properties.
