Ayurvedic Concept: Insomnia, known as “Nidranash” in Ayurvedic ancient literature, is a condition of inadequate quantity or quality of sleep. It may be a symptom of a depressive illness, an anxiety disorder or some other psychiatric condition. More commonly, it arises at a time of increased stress in life. Some people then become preoccupied with lack of sleep and fear trying to get to sleep. The main biological factors involved in the pathogenesis of insomnia are vatta (air) and pitta (fire).
